Our Plant of the Week: Pygmy Date & King Sago Palms
Watch as Nickolaus, our Certified Horticulturist, shares a little bit about Pygmy Date and King Sago Palms, our Plants of the Week.
The Pygmy Date Palm (Phoenix roebelenii) typically reaches 10-12’, occasionally taller, and will produce small, edible dates. As a slow-growing palm, it only grows a few inches a year and takes 25-50 years to reach maturity. And their tropical appeal includes the unique trunk. It’s ideal for narrow side yards, corner accents or entryways. The King Sago Palm, which is actually a Cycad, is a small growing palm that’s drought tolerant and typically reaches 5-6’ but occasionally 10’. It makes an ideal specimen plant or as a corner accent.
