Our Plant of the Week: Florida Natives

Join Nickolaus, our Certified Horticulturist, as he shares a little about our Native Plants, our ‘plant’ of the week. We are glad to say that Florida natives are not grass and weeds. They are many varieties that offer color, including Heliotrope, Firebush and Blue Sage and more. And these natives will attract countless pollinators including Butterflies, Hummingbirds and others.

Natives goes beyond landscape and beauty. Many act as host plants for the larval stage of our Florida Butterflies. Examples include Native Lime supporting the Giant Swallowtail. Bahama Cassia feeding the Cloudless Sulphur. Native Milkweed supporting the Monarch. Twinflower feeding the Buckeye. And Frogfruit, both an ideal groundcover and feeding the Peacock.

Nickolaus’ favorites include the hearty Beach Morning Glory, Native Blueberry and Sage (also known as Salvia).
