Aloe is a Florida-friendly succulent offering multiple varities suitable for indoor and outdoor plantings. Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis), the most common, is known for its medicinal (soothing) effect of burns. Likewise, Soap Aloe (Aloe maculata) features thick leaves that are often used as soap. The blooms also attract hummingbirds.

As compared to the spiny Agave, Aloe plants are typically smaller and softer than Agave. If you snap an Aloe leaf, you’ll quickly discover the comforting gel.
